The Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery is located at Bar J Road and South Red Oak Way in Temple, Georgia. As you enter the neighborhood, it is directly on your left.
According to the Carroll County Tax Office the cemetery is 1.68 acres. It's last know owner was the Old Bethel Church. Little is known about this now disbanded church. The current Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1190 Carrollton St, Temple, GA 30179, does not lay claim to this cemetery.
The cemetery contains approximately 26 known plots. There are nine above ground, rough hewn stone box crypts, other contemporary monuments, and many graves marked only with fieldstones. The box crypts are unique because they are topped with large curved stones placed at the head of the crypt. This creates an effect that resembles a bed with a headboard. A large cement memorial marker reads: Restoration Done by Family and Descendants of Isaac E. Cobb, 1974.
Over the years family members and volunteers have attempted to clean up the cemetery, but it inevitably returns to its overgrown status. The VRAHS is determined to reclaim this cemetery from neglect, preserving its history and safeguarding it for current and future residents of Carroll County. To that end we have acquired ownership of the adjacent plot, using it as our staging group for clean-up days.
