About Us

Our Story

VRAHS is a group of volunteers passionate about preserving and sharing local history. Founded in 2016 to save the Hart House, our endeavors have ranged from the most significant homes to minor relics. Our members include authors, historians, and cemetery enthusiasts. Our preservation efforts strive to promote and preserve
the historical and cultural heritage of the area and positively impact the local population.

Our Achievements:

  • Bringing local awareness to the plight of three endangered historical homes: the Hart House, the Marchman-Connally House, and Reid Plantation

  • In 2019, we obtained the lot adjacent to Temple's Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery located off of Bar J Road. Currently, we are researching, cleaning, and preserving this cemetery.

  • Stabilized and cleaned the Draketown monument, remembering Alice Stewart, the first woman martyr of Prohibition

  • Metal detecting members have found numerous artifacts and helped locate historical sites and record GPS readings

  • In 2021, acquired Wick's Tavern and meeting hall
